陶梅霞,上海交通大学电子工程系教授、博士生导师、无线通信技术研究所副所长。
教育及工作经历:
1999年获复旦大学学士学位。
2003年获香港科技大学博士学位。
2003-2004年任职于香港应用科技研究院。
2004-2007年在新加坡国立大学电子与计算机工程系先后任教员和助理教授。
自2008年起加入上海交通大学。
学术兼职:
担任IEEE TCOM、IEEE WCL编委。担任过IEEE TWireless(2007-2011年)和IEEE CL (2009-2012)编委。还担任过 IEEE COMM Magazine 2012年专题“LTE-A及4G无线通信”和EURASIP J WCN 2010年特刊“物理层网络编码”的客座编委。现为IEEE高级会员。

陶梅霞获第四届IEEE通信学会亚太区杰出青年研究奖
日前,我院电子系王新兵副教授和陶梅霞副教授获IEEE通信学会亚太区杰出青年研究奖。此奖授予过去2年中在通信领域的论文发表/会议方面活跃的杰出年轻研究人员。2009年的获奖者中中国大陆地区仅有二名,均被我院教师获得,显示了上海交通大学年轻教师的影响力。
陶梅霞副教授的获奖评价是“For her contribution to Wireless Communications Systems and Communication Theory”(由于其在无线通信系统和通信理论的贡献而获奖)。
梅霞似乎一直是这样被自己的感悟推着走,任何来到她身边的事物她都会从中看到方向,然后付出自己全部的努力,认真做到最好,其余的便不再计较。从当初选择电子学,到如今成为上海交通大学电子工程系教授、博士生导师;主持国家自然科学基金、国家科技重大专项,一路走来,她不断地释放着自己的能量。
敏而好悟
确立事业方向
早年,陶梅霞考取上海复旦大学电子工程系的时候面临着专业的选择,微电子还是电子学?当时的她可能不曾想过,这个非A即B的选择将决定她今后的生活。
与大多数女孩子不同,陶梅霞“特别喜欢数学,尤其喜欢推导公式”,“但是对做实验这种需要动手的事情却不太在行”。一番考虑之后,陶梅霞决定读电子学专业,就这样,电子学领域多了一名美女专家。
选专业就像谈恋爱,互相适合是关键。读书的日子里,信号与信息系统作为电子学专业的基础课程不知弄得多少人头晕脑胀,而陶梅霞却兴奋得不得了,因为在她看来“用数学对信号做出解释和处理是件非常有趣的事情”。显而易见,陶梅霞与电子学已然“两情相悦”。
四年本科的学习,并没有满足陶梅霞的好奇心,大学毕业后,她选择继续深造。在香港科技大学读博期间,她遇到了自己的导师,这是一位在无线通信领域颇有名气的人物,他的言传身教令陶梅霞受益匪浅。陶梅霞说:“在香港科技大学的那段时间,是最宝贵的学习阶段。那时候,与导师和同学们的交流让我知道,原来学术界不是枯燥得像片沙漠,而是有着许许多多有意思的事情。更为重要的是,学习和工作让我发现,原来我可以做很多事情,我可以通过努力为这个领域做出一点点的贡献,这个领域还有太多的未知等待着我去发现。”
香港科技大学的学习完成后,陶梅霞进入了香港应用科技研究院任职。这是一个类似于中科院的研究机构,虽然规模不大,但是却肩负着高难度的研发工作,并需要把科技成果转移给产业界,培育优秀科技人才,整合业界和学术界的研发资源等重任。渐渐的,陶梅霞开始注意到,一切在慢慢地发生着变化。“可能是因为接触成果转化工作多了,我发现以前在学校里做的研究都太理想化了,而现实中的情况是十分复杂地,”认识到了这一点,陶梅霞就不断地提醒自己,“要打破以前惯有的思维方式,开拓眼界,结合实际”。“科研一定要能够解决实际问题”也成为了她而后选择课题方向的一项重要指标。
勤勉努力
成就“世纪创新人才”
2004年8月,陶梅霞受聘于新加坡国立大学电子与计算机工程系。任教期间,作为项目负责人(PI)和共同负责人(Co-PI)共成功申请到约相当于160万人民币的科研基金,指导的一篇本科毕业设计论文获2005年新加坡工程师协会的Publication Awards。 2008年1月,陶梅霞回到祖国,任教于上海交通大学电子工程系。同年,成为上海市2008年晨光计划项目承担人,并荣获上海交通大学“晨星青年学者奖励计划”SMC优秀青年教师奖。
“无线双向中继通信单元的性能极限分析及其新型编码与调制技术研究”是陶梅霞2009年申请到的青年科学基金项目。双向中继是结合了网络编码的无线协作通信基本单元。其基本思想是在两数据节点经中继协助相互传递信息时,由中继将两路数据合并,然后同时广播给接收端。相对于传统中继技术,双向中继可以成倍提升频谱效率。然而,中继策略的多样性、双向信息长度的不等性以及信道质量的不对称性等因素,使得相关研究极富挑战性。
面对挑战,陶梅霞没有退缩,她的思路十分明晰并取得了三方面的重要进展:通过分析双向中继策略的可达速率域、分集复用折中、有效容量等性能指标,深入剖析了信道对称性、中继节点位置、天线个数、业务统计时延需求等参数影响这一基本通信单元性能的一般规律;系统研究了针对双向中继通信单元的物理层网络编码、信道-网络联合编译码、以及空时预编码,提出了一套较全面的高谱效、高可靠性的双向中继通信方案;还研究了由双向中继单元构成的多用户信息交互网络,提出了一系列协作预编码方案及资源优化算法,充分挖掘了双向中继在实际复杂环境下的高频谱效率潜能。这些研究成果不仅对提高无线双向甚至多向通信效率具有重要意义,也对广义上的网络编码与协作通信的结合产生深刻影响。
项目研究期间,陶梅霞应邀访问了日本东北大学Fumiyuki Adachi教授课题组和美国哥伦比亚大学王晓东教授课题组,并就双向中继预编码方面的成果作了学术报告。陶梅霞还与来访的英国约克大学Alister G. Burr教授和Agisilaos Papadogiannis博士就基于双向中继的物理层网络编码在第四代移动通信网络中的应用展开了合作研究。
基于在陶梅霞归国后一系列创新性的研究成果,她成功入选了2011年度教育部新世纪优秀人才计划,并于2013年获得了国家自然科学基金优秀青年基金资助。相关研究成果的学术论文还获得了2013年IEEE通信学会海因里希·赫兹论文奖。这是通信领域最重要的国际学术奖项之一,也是IEEE海因里希·赫兹奖第一次授予中国学者。
水到渠成
致力通信前瞻性研究
近年来,智能终端设备的广泛使用,带动了移动互联网产业的蓬勃发展。作为支撑移动互联网的重要基础设施,移动通信网络的承载能力却面临严峻考验,主要承载业务也已从传统的“互联互通”向“内容分发”迅速转型。然而,当前的移动通信网络仍然袭着传统“连接导向”的通信架构。单纯依赖扩展通信资源的发展模式无法支撑移动互联网的长期可持续发展。
在通信技术发展的同时,移动终端和网络的存储及计算能力也在飞跃式的发展。人们意识到,如能利用丰富而廉价的存储和计算资源,对内容进行分析、预测,然后提前将内容缓存在离用户近的基站端,或直接推送在用户终端设备里,便可有效减少无线空口资源消耗或回程链路开销,提高移动内容分发效率。因此,陶梅霞认为,要从本质上解决移动通信网络的承载问题,就必须实现从传统的“连接导向”到“内容中心”的根本转变,构建“内容中心无线网络(content-centric wireless networks)”这一未来无线通信愿景。
陶梅霞介绍说:“目前,内容中心无线网络的相关研究尚处于起步阶段,存在巨大研究空间。”
2015年,陶梅霞就“基于多播和缓存的内容中心无线网络基础理论及关键技术”项目递交了国家自然科学基金面上项目申请书。
作为项目主持人,陶梅霞将该项目宗旨定位在基于现有无线通信网络基础设施,通过充分利用无线信道的广播特征和无线网络里的存储资源,就“连接导向”到“内容中心”的传输架构转型这一领域进行探索。重点围绕物理层多播和边缘缓存这两大核心技术,深入研究相关的基础理论和关键技术。
俗话说,不谋全局者,不足谋一域。经过多年的积淀,陶梅霞已然是为此前瞻性的研究可以顺利执行打下了坚实的基础。目前的陶梅霞项目组成员已经完成了相应的基础性研究工作及预研,如:面向海量内容移动分发的“内容中心无线网络”概念的提出及容量的初步分析;蜂窝网络中的物理层多播波束赋形;具备缓存的内容中心无线网络的最优动态多播调度。
此外,陶梅霞项目组还依托上海无线通信技术研究所搭建的大型综合无线创新试验平台开展研究。该平台有效集成了宽带移动网络、数字广播网络、无线局域网络及云计算,可以为项目研究中的数据采集、分析和方案验证提供丰富的资源。
陶梅霞的这一项目研究成果必将为解决移动通信网络的频谱危机提供新思路、新途径,并为构建未来内容中心无线网络提供基础理论指导和关键技术支撑。鉴于近年来她在科学研究上的突出表现及所展现出的创新潜能及相关工作所具有的重要创新前景,2015年8月被遴选为2015年的“万人计划”青年拔尖人才。
国学大师王国维的《人间词话》中提到关于治学的第三种境界,“众里寻他千百度,蓦然回首,那人却在,灯火阑珊处。”做学问、成大事业者,要达到第三境界,必须有专注的精神,反复追寻、研究,下足功夫,自然会豁然贯通,有所发现,有所发明,就能够从必然王国进入自由王国。记者期待,女青年科学家陶梅霞在中国电子工程科学的天空,绽放属于自己的智慧之光。
